  • Auburn Bay Residents' Association 200 Auburn Bay Boulevard Southeast Calgary, AB, T3M 0A4 Canada (map)

Holiday Creativity and Fun Awaits…

Age Group: 16 +
Experience Level: All are Welcome!

Spend a creative and meditative day working with your hands before the holiday chaos begins!

Open to beginners and those with a bit of experience, this festive and fun class has it all: new skills, holiday vibes, and new friends.

Come for a day of warm, festive inspiration and self-care! The beautiful tree skirt you’ll make will become a touchstone decor piece that your family will come back to, year after year.

In this full-day class, you will learn:

  • Machine Sewing Skills

  • Working with Circles and Curves

  • Hand Sewing Techniques

  • Applying a Trim

Food & Beverage - Lunch and beverages are catered so that you can relax, enjoy, and focus on YOU. Feel free to bring small snacks for the in-between times if you like.

Supplies - For this class, you will need to purchase:

  • 1.2 metres each of 2 different coordinating fabrics - Quilting cotton works great, or any medium-weight woven home decor fabric.

  • (OPTIONAL) 4 metres of flexible trim to go around the edge - could be pompom trim, rick rack, ruffle trim, etc.
(Ribbon doesn’t work well for this)

  • Coordinating thread

  • 1.8m of ½” wide ribbon (for closure)

Where to shop for fabric: Fabricland, Marshall Fabrics, Rick Rack, quilting shops, etc.

Questions about supplies? Overwhelmed by the fabric store? Email hello@calgarysewingschool.com for help!

Tools - Pins, scissors, tape measures, irons, seam rippers, etc will all be at the venue ready for you to use. No need to bring your own.

Sewing Machines - If you have one, bring it! It's best to learn on the machine you'll continue to use. If you don't have one, simply indicate at checkout that you'll need to borrow a CSS machine (limited supply).

Vibe: Your instructor is a skilled, experienced, warm and wacky lady who loves people and sewing. The teaching is intuitive and casual, and you will be amazed how much you can learn in a short time. The environment is fun and inclusive, with people of every kind being welcome.

Schedule: 9am - 3:30pm.  Carve out a soul-filling day away from your regular life on a one-off basis. One and done… until you come back for another!

Price: $205
